Jerk Shrimp Tacos
This week for taco Tuesday (8/31/2021), I decided to make Jerk shrimp tacos with homemade mango salsa. This was my first time ever making either, and it turned out really amazing. Minus prep, this was a very quick meal to make. What I deemed as time consuming was actually cutting each vegetable, and cleaning + deveining the shrimp, other than that, this could easily be a go-to meal during the week or for entertaining.
In the past I’ve made jerk chicken tacos which is one of my go-to dishes. I wanted something a little spicy but did not want chicken, so choosing seafood was a no brainer. I started with 2 bowls of jumbo shrimp cleaned, washed, and seasoned.
The seasoning that I chose was a blended seasoning mixed of various spices. It’s homemade so unfortunately I cannot share with you the exact seasoning I used. Now, I know you’re probably asking yourself “how are we supposed to make this without knowing what seasonings she used?!”. In my opinion, the only ingredient you should make sure you have before making this dish is the walkers wood traditional Jamaican jerk seasoning. In addition to this jerk seasoning, you still want to make sure you season your meat. I used a spoonful of the jerk seasoning.
Typically, when I make tacos, I use traditional toppings such as lettuce, salsa, cheese, sour cream etc. but this time, I wanted to try something a little different for a change. While I was at work daydreaming about these tacos, I randomly decided to make mango salsa. I have never in my life made mango salsa nor have I tasted it, but I knew I wanted it. I basically winged this recipe and used ingredients in my home.
Ingredients I used for Mango Salsa:
1 mango
1 orange bell pepper
1 red onion
Cilantro
1 lime
2 Cherokee purple tomatoes
3 cherry tomatoes
How to make Mango Salsa:
This is probably the easiest, most simplest thing you will ever make in your life. All you’re going to do is cut up your vegetables/mango, put everything in a bowl, squeeze your lime juice and mix the products. It’s literally just THAT simple. Please keep in mind, that you’ll want to make sure your mango is ripe to get the best taste.
I really enjoyed making this dish and cant wait to make it again. If you try this, let me know! I would love to hear your thoughts on the dish and the flavors you experience.
Until next time,
Brittanie
